The Intellectual Property Rights sub committee of JAPIA was founded in July 2002 with the aim of responding as a industry to violations of intellectual property rights abroad. 

Tackling counterfeit items is still the most important issue, but at the same time, we will also be working on various issues relating to "intellectual property rights" of the automotive parts industry, such as technology leakage problems, training of person experts in intellectual property human resources, research on overseas patent trends. We are implementing activities targeting these issues.

The sub-committee is being operated by the following 21 member companies as of April 2018.

The intellectual property rights sub committee has been implementing anti-counterfeit activities since its establishment in 2002. At present, we are currently engaged in three basic activities: 1) Survey of counterfeit distribution in specific countries,  2) Educational activities at auto parts related exhibitions, and 3) Requesting that crack down on counterfeits overseas public agencies in China and Dubai.
